THE SEVEN PRINCIPLES - A Guide To Making Marriage and Relationships Work

The intent of this talk or program is to offer relationship skills to couples who are married and desire to deepen and enhance their relationship.

This program is particularly relevant and important today because of the fact that the number of divorces in couples over 50 has skyrocketed in the past 20 years!

The Seven Principles Program is based on the work of John Gottman, one of the world's foremost authorities on what makes for a healthy relationship and why marriages are either successful or deteriorate.

It is based on the latest research about what makes marriage and relationships succeed, and what happens when relationships deteriorate and fail. It does not provide psychotherapy nor is it intended to take the place of marital therapy.

It does provide practical skills in a psycho-educational format that can help couples strengthen their relationships.

Dr. Buckles is available to speak to businesses, community groups, fraternal organizations, chambers of commerce, church congregations, synagogues, or other organizations who would like to offer the opportunity for their members to hear and learn about ways to improve their relationships.

FROM PROBLEM TO PROFITS

TO FIND INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS...FIRST, FIND INNOVATORS

Gain Competitive Advantage AND Build a Culture of Innovation

We won't show you how to innovate...we'll show you how to find the people who can!

All people solve problems. All people are innovative. And problem-solving is at the heart of innovation. In this strategic talk we will show you a unique approach to finding, selecting, and developing creative problem-solvers using "thinking style."

How Successful Companies Use Thinking Style to Gain Competitive Advantage and Create a Culture of Innovation

How will your organization find the right people...with the right talent...to solve the right business problems...and produce innovative solutions? Can you cultivate a culture of innovation to insure future success? Innovation is the new mission for leaders throughout the world. Where will you find the innovators?

"Competition is a contest between management's thinking processes."

Finding Innovators - ASQ International Quality Conference

The New Strategic Management by Ron Sanchez and Aimee' Heene

An entertaining and provocative look at the successes and failures in our search for the holy grail of innovation. But, what is the grail? What does it look like? Can we really find it? Or is it forever just beyond our grasp.

The true "innovator's grail" is the human mind! The fact is, all people are creative...just creative in different ways. Part of discovering the "grail" is figuring out how to identify the innovators in the organization and then asking.... How do innovators think? What problem solving strategies do they use? Where are your innovators? How will you find them? How can you leverage their skills, styles, and abilities and turn problems into profits? In this talk we will describe some ways to help you answer those questions.

To answer these questions, we use very specialized and rigorous assessment instruments to determine individual problem-solving strategies and preferences for innovative thinking styles. In the simplest terms, we examine two distinctly different types of thinking styles: what we call IN-THE-BOX THINKERS and OUT-OF-THE-BOX THINKERS. Both are highly creative problem-solvers but have very different styles.

IN-THE-BOX-THINKERS

OUT-OF-THE-BOX-THINKERS

  • STRENGTH: Strives to provide solutions aimed more at making things "better"
  • High regard for current structure (policies, rules, etc.)
  • Prefers to refine, extend, or improve the accepted practice, operations, or approach
  • Often seen as sound, conforming, safe, predictable, inflexible, wedded to the system, intolerant of ambiguity
  • WEAKNESS: May stay with a failing paradigm too long
  • STRENGTH: Generally prefers to seek solutions that result in doing things"differently"
  • Tends to be less tolerant of structure
  • Likely to make a change to the current structure in order to solve problem
  • Often seen as exciting, unsound, impractical, risky, abrasive, threat to the established system
  • WEAKNESS: May leave a working paradigm too soon

Both styles are needed in order to solve the most pressing business problems. The key is how to identify, select, and engage them in problem solving efforts.

In this talk we will not only deal with some of the issues around the "innovator's grail" but also how to build awareness of style differences, how to analyze a problem structure, how to decide on team composition, how to assess for style, how to select team members, and how to encourage diversity of styles.
