Life Transitions Coaching

What is a "life transition?"

A life transition is usually a change in our life situation or condition that causes us to re-examine our present sense of who we are. Although transitions can happen at any age or stage of life, many people experience them during mid-life or at retirement - particularly those in the 45-60 age range.

One of the most cataclysmic change events in history is taking place right now: Over 110 million people on the verge of retiring. There are 78 million baby boomers in the U.S. and over 10,000 of them turn 65 every single day! Plus, 1/3 of all Americans are over the age of 50! And 2/3 of all people who ever turned 65, in the history of the world, are alive today!!! This phenomenon is often called the Age Wave or the Silver Tsunami!

"Since the 'modern' era began, aging has largely been seen as a time of decline, loss, and withdrawal from active contribution. Look up the word "retire" in the dictionary; most of the definitions include the word 'withdraw.' Accompanying this view is the belief, held in both overt and subtle ways, that once we retire, 'it's all downhill from here.' Our best years are over, with us by and large having made our significant contribution to society. Loss of a sense of purpose and meaning, and a flagging of our passions for life, is to be expected. The best we can do is hold on to who we have been for as long as possible, doing our best to stay healthy, enjoying life to the extent our health and finances will allow, perhaps finding some volunteer activities to keep us occupied, and hoping things turn out okay."

Ron Pevny, Director of the Center for Conscious Eldering

That view is changing...and changing rather dramatically. As I suggest in my own book
MY ELDERQUEST, "We are living in the age of the longevity revolution. Where we have the gift of an additional 15, 20 or even 25 years of mostly healthy, productive living. It is a whole new life stage that comes during that gift of years when we are still vital, still curious, and relatively healthy, active, and most importantly, still growing emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually. And it comes at a time when we are developing a broader, deeper, and more carefully considered perspective on the meaning and value of life."

The question is, how prepared are you to deal with the profound changes that you will face as you approach this particular life transition? What new skills will you need? How will you make that transition from work to retirement, from adulthood to elderhood?

"Bianetics specializes in assisting those who are moving through their own personal life transitions. Especially those who are making the transition from work to retirement. It's what we call "life transitions coaching."
